As many community members know, the term “whump” originated in the Stargate SG-1 community, where the fan favorite whumpee was archaeologist Daniel Jackson. Jackson died — and then returned — again and again over Stargate SG-1’s long run, enough times for a prominent fan wiki to dedicate an entire page to cataloging Daniel’s deaths and injuries in loving detail.
In 2018, Tumblr user the-whumpy-fangirl suggested celebrating an International Whump Day, proposing September 12th as the first of Daniel’s many deaths. This International Whump Day, we asked long-time whumper and fanfic librarian Ace to help us celebrate by recommending us fifteen of her favorite Daniel Jackson whump fics.

- What Dreams May Come by brihana25. While exploring a seemingly uninhabited planet, Daniel falls victim to a Goa’uld trap. How far are Jack and SG-1 willing to go to get him back?
- Cocidian by brihana25. It is December 21. SG-1 are held captive offworld – with one of their own seriously ill, and no hope of being rescued in time. Will they all make it back to the SGC? Or will they watch a friend die a million light-years from home?
