For various reasons, Wince is a $0 in, $0 out endeavor*. But if you enjoy what we do, if you read work that resonates with you, if you read some juicy original fiction here — we still do need and appreciate your support.
Here’s how you can help.
- Share! Share quotes, pass on interesting articles, encourage friends to submit work. We’re a small community, but new folks join every day. Sharing Wince is not only great for our numbers (yay!), it means we get more and better submissions from a wide range of readers.
- Support the contributors. Many of our writers and artists have self-published books, ko-fi accounts, or take commissions. Follow them, reblog their stuff, comment on their Ao3 fics. Buy whatever it is they’re selling, if you’re able.
- Volunteer your time. Would you like to help edit? Have an idea for a column? Want to commit to draw a year’s worth of covers? Write us a whumpy comic strip! Record audio versions of our articles! Format the .pdf version for us! There’s a whole host of things we could use help with, if you’re interested in joining this very small, passionate team.
- Put us in touch. Do you know someone who wrote a bunch of Mulder!torture in the early years of internet fandom? Have a family friend who used to edit a Star Trek zine? Know a professional writer who you think might want to discuss hurt/comfort elements in their work? Send us an email — we’d love to get in touch.
- Save, document, edit. This one’s not about Wince specifically, but hear us out — Wince was created to support the community, both now, by providing interesting, relevant writing; and in the future, by acting as a source and repository. You can help us carry on this mission by bookmarking interesting articles, privately recording your thoughts on any big fandom or community happenings, editing TVTropes and fanlore to help the fandom researchers of the future “get” what we, the whumpers, are doing here.
